Training Your Poodle Pup Starts From Day One

If you have never had a dog before, don’t start with a puppy. Please get an adult, to ease you into the transition of life with dogs. But if you are ready for a Poodle pup, learn all the Poodle puppy care you can before you bring your new best friend home. Make sure everyone in the house knows the house rules and commands to use around the puppy. This will make training a lot less confusing.

Decide in advance if your Poodle pup will be allowed into certain rooms, allowed on the furniture or where the potty area should be. Poodles learn very quickly, but all learn at their own rate. Remember, the World's Smartest Dog is currently a Toy Poodle (and the previous one was also a Toy Poodle). Getting your Poodle pup to look at you on command is a great training feat. When your dog pays attention to you, training is a lot easier.
When raising your Poodle pup, you need to be clear, consistent and calm. Raising a puppy is much like raising a small child who speaks a foreign language. Expect your Poodle pup to make mistakes. Never hit your Poodle pup, as that will only teach him to be scared of you, and biting often results. Try to use one word or two word commands at first. Have every body in the home use the same commands to avoid confusing the puppy.

You only need to keep training sessions a few minutes at a time several times a day. Poodle puppy care rests on training, but Poodle pups have limited attention spans. A good training session is right before you put the food bowl down. Make then sit before they can eat. Usually lifting the bowl directly over their heads makes them instinctively sit as they keep their eyes on the food.
You can also have a calmer, more obedient and more focused Poodle pup if you get him neutered (or her spayed). This also makes for a healthier dog that looks to you for things to do, rather than wandering off to pick fights over mating rights. Neutering also lessens your pet insurance premiums and reduces the chances of getting certain cancers. This keeps your puppy a puppy even when grown, as they will always see you as their parents.

Keep positive reinforcement in mind rather than training with force. Training with physical abuse will raise a fearful dog that is liable to bite at the least provocation. Your goal is to make your Poodle want to behave. Be patient. Make sure everyone in the home is using the same commands. Keep the commands to one or two words at first, and be generous with praise. Remember, every dog learns at his or her own pace.

Poodle puppies quickly adjust to new surroundings and will easily become part of a loving family. Poodle puppy care instructions are easy to learn and follow.

Picking A Poodle Puppy Is Easy

Everyone loves puppies, and there's something especially appealing about a poodle puppy. Like most purebred dogs, poodles do have a few medical conditions and disorders that are particular to the poodle breed, so it is important that you have your poodle puppy checked by a veterinarian – before you take delivery of the puppy, if possible.

How to choose the right poodle puppy is a decision that must be based on your head, not your heart. Decide what factors are important to you before you expose yourself to a litter of adorable poodle puppies, all vying for your attention and begging to go home with you.

Some Poodle puppy shoppers like to select the puppy that is the strongest, most aggressive in the litter, while others are drawn to the runt of the litter. But whatever Poodle personality you prefer, choose a dog that walks and trots briskly, without limping. And don't choose a dog that has a discharge around the eyes.
There are a few medical conditions that the Poodle breed seems to be prone too. Reputable Poodle breeders are well aware of these conditions, and will be able to tell you whether your Poodle puppy's parents have any of these conditions. Toy and Miniature Poodles may have conditions such as urolithiasis, trichiasis, cryptorchidism, patella subluxation, and leg and calve perthes. Standard Poodles may have one of these conditions: gastric torsion, Addison's disease, sebaceous adenitis, and cancer. Toy, Miniature, and Standard poodles are susceptible to conditions like hip dysplasia, progressive retinal atrophy, cataracts and other eye disorders, seizures, Von Willebrand's disease, Cushing's disease mammary tumors, hypothyroidism, and epilepsy.

Don’t let these problems prevent you from getting a Poodle puppy. By taking your Poodle puppy to the veterinarian for regular checkups, you can stay on top of any health problems that arise. Your veterinarian will tell you how often your puppy needs to be seen for checkups.
If you've never had a Poodle before, consider the grooming needs of Poodle puppies before you get a puppy. Are you prepared to bathe and clip your Poodle every four to six weeks and brush its hair every day? You can delegate the grooming and clipping to a groomer, but you'll need to do all the brushing yourself.

To keep your dog healthy, don't make any sudden changes to your Poodle puppy's diet. Get a sample of puppy food from the breeder, enough to feed the puppy for a few days, until you can buy some of the same food. Consult your veterinarian about food your puppy should eat as it develops into a grown dog.

A Poodle puppy isn't for everyone. Puppies require a lot of energy and a lot of training. Poodle care costs more during the first year or two than any other time in a dog's life. If you think a puppy might be too much for you to handle, consider getting a Poodle rescue dog. Homeless purebred Poodles – Toys, Miniatures and Standards – are just waiting to be matched with someone who loves Poodles.

The best way to find healthy Poodle puppies is to go to a reputable breeder. Choosing the right breeder is the first step toward knowing how to choose the right Poodle puppy.

The Poodle Puppy And Its Habits

Even though it may have taken you some time to finally decide what kind of puppy you are going to be bringing home, you have finally decided to purchase a Poodle puppy. And now that the hard decisions are over, the hard work is set to begin, as you must make sure that your house is completely puppy proof in the sense that there is nothing left around that they can get hurt from.

Just like you would not leave mousetraps lying around a baby on the floor, you would not want to leave such items around a Poodle Puppy who is just as curious as any baby. Also, make sure that if there is anything that you really would get upset about if it got chewed, you need to take care of those items by putting them up and out of reach of the new puppy because one of the things that puppies love to do is chew.
Some more things that you will want to have done before your Poodle puppy comes home is having a good detailed list of the things you want him or her to learn such as where to go potty and to stay off of the couch. Once you have come up with your list, you want to determine which of the dog lessons are the most important to you. By doing so, you can make sure you get to the most important task first because puppies should only be trained on one lesson at a time.

Also, in order to make any trainings a success, you must have some good Poodle puppy names on hand so that when you finally get your puppy home, you will have a list of your personal favorites in regards to puppy names and selecting the right one will not take as long. Once that is all said and done you can begin your training and you want to start that right away, as they can be stubborn at times.
It is important to know right away that the Poodle puppy is extremely hard headed sometimes and kind of likes to do things his or her own way. Although this is a habit that is breakable, it is going to take some time, patience, and most importantly, love. There is a lot more to learn and to deal with then the books make there out to be and that is not something you will truly understand until the puppy is in your home.

One thing that is extremely important to understand is that Poodle puppies can have minds of their own and therefore there are going to be a lot of accidents. Do not let that discourage you though because once you are through the training stage, you will love the warmth and dedication that your puppy will offer you. And you in turn, you love that puppy so much that you can never imagine letting him or her go over some silly training issue.

Poodle puppies make great house pets but know that training your new puppy is not always going to be easy because of their personality traits. You will not be able to successfully train your puppy unless you have gone over all of the Poodle puppy names and picked one out for your friend.

Anyone who is interested in finding Poodles for sale should make sure that they take the time to find the right breeder. There are literally hundreds of different breeders out there after all. Many of these are mass breeders, which are breeders that do not care about the dogs and who are more worried about the financial aspect of it.

It is usually easy to spot these breeders because their dogs will be unhealthy and sickly looking, and be very poorly behaved. It is important for any would be buyer to ask for the proper paperwork and make sure that they are a legitimate and respected dog breeder and that they are taking proper care of the dogs. Another good idea is to have a veterinarian give them a once over because this is the only way to make sure that they are healthy.

Trainable Poodles For Sale

One of the main reasons people start looking for Poodles for sale is that they do not want the dog hair mess all over the carpets, the furniture, the beds and just about everywhere else you can think of. A lot of people are allergic to dog hair so dogs that shed everywhere can cause a major problem for most people. Also, it can be embarrassing to always be walking out of the house covered in dog hair from head to toe and not even realize it.

Also, not to mention that these little Poodle puppies serve as excellent alarm systems in that they will gladly bark to alert you to the presence of a stranger. While they may not be the vicious attack dogs that most people picture, Poodles do want to make sure their territory is protected and they will do everything possible to make sure that happens.
Finding Poodles for sale is never hard at all, as these dogs can often be found in many locations, such as in the local newspaper and online. There are many pros and cons though to each method so once you understand both you will just pick a way that is best for you and your needs. Before you know it you will find many Poodle Puppies that you will fall in love with.

With using the newspaper for your searching, you may find that your weekly or monthly search for puppies may be a little dry and that could all just be dependant upon how active breeders are in your area. If you live in a smaller town, you are less likely to have hundred of breeders advertising but you do at least get to see the puppies in person when you do find a breeder near your home. And for a lot of people, just having that chance is well worth the wait.
But then there are always the people who need instant success and when they want to see Poodles for sale, they want to see them now. A lot of people do not like waiting or possibly just do not have the time if the puppy is a gift for someone. When looking for Poodle puppies online you will be surprised with the many different types and colors that you will come across.

It is almost the best and only way to get the biggest selection of Poodles for sale but there are downfalls to going this route. One of the biggest problems that people come across is not being able to see the Poodle puppies in person. Generally, if the breeder is solid this is not a problem, but as we are know, there is always a rotten apple in every bunch. Try to see what communications you get from the breeder and always go with your gut feeling. The last thing you want is to find that you paid big money for a poor unhealthy dog that was mistreated or poorly bred.

Looking for the perfect Poodle puppies can be exhausting, especially if there are not a lot of Poodles for sale in your area. Proper Poodle puppy care starts by making sure that your animal comes from a safe environment.

Poodles As Active Animals

It is easy to find Poodle breeders online, or you can ask the vet and even check with the nearest kennel club. The characteristics of a well-bred Poodle are intelligence, elegance and an active temperament. It is advisable to get your pet Poodle directly from a Poodle breeder instead of getting it from a pet shop.

Poodle breeders should have professional affiliations like well known kennel clubs or Poodle clubs. These organizations have dedicated themselves to promoting the breed. A good Poodle breeder will take care of the smallest details when you are buying a dog.

The breeder actually has a list of questions and the buyer has to answer them. The questions are regarding your accommodation, your family, whether you possess other pets and how you will be treating your pet. Only after their approval, the breeder will agree to sell you the dog. Once you have passed the test, it is advisable for you to get all the details of the breed from the breeder. They can give you the best advice regarding the care of the dog. This service is definitely not available if you buy from a pet shop.
This direct contact with the breeder is therefore essential and a pet shop is unable to provide any assurance regarding the pet. The Poodle breeder offers a guarantee for the pet, because he has taken care to breed it and has made sure that it can adjust itself in a new home. The personality of the breeder also plays an important role here, as he must be a special friend to the dogs, otherwise he cannot be a good breeder.

The home of the breeder should be clean and hygienic, because that is from where you are taking your pet home. The dog's surroundings also reflect the quality of the breeder. If he is a conscientious breeder, he is looking towards improving the quality of the dogs, not just looking at the financial gain. He studies the background of the bloodlines in the Poodle's pedigree. In this way he is aiming at the prevention of genetic diseases and genetic disorders.

It is dangerous to buy a Poodle puppy from a backyard breeder, just because the price is much lower than a recognized breeder. You do save some money, but you do not get any information about the dog's health and temperament. You also don't get to know anything about the genetics of the breeding pair.
You should never buy a Poodle puppy from a pet shop. A puppy mill, not Poodle breeders, often supplies pups to a pet shop. In such a mill, dog breeding is a moneymaking business and there is no consideration of health and the conditions in which the pups are raised. The genetic health and temperament of the pups are given no importance at all, as long as the pups can be sold off for money.

Pups in pet stores can also be secondhand puppies. Normally a broker sends the pups from a puppy mill to the pet store. The broker generally acquires the pups at a very young age and so they are kept away from their mothers. The pups are not given the necessary inoculations and they become prone to serious canine diseases like parvo and distemper. People often buy from pet shops, because they feel sorry for the pups. But it is advisable not to do it, as these practices should be stopped and dogs should not be mistreated in this way.

Go in for a responsible Poodle breeder, even though you may have to pay more. The good breeders are educated professionals, and each one invests time, knowledge and money into their well-planned researched breeding programs.

It is apparent that the pups in the pet shops come from puppy mills and backyard breeding, and are therefore not to be recommended like the Poodle breeders. Poodle information is provided in this article with details about where one should buy a Poodle.

Poodle Breeders: Be Careful Who You're Dealing With

It is important that you truly understand that not all Poodle breeders are friends of their puppies. There are a lot of people who only see dollar signs when they see the puppies and care for nothing when it comes to the mental and physical well being of those animals. These are the breeders that you will want to watch out for and make sure that you look for signs of abuse and if you can prove it, you will want to turn them in.

Understand that when you bring a puppy home that came from some terrible Poodle breeders, you may be creating one problem after another for yourself. There are a lot of problems that can arise from the abuse and neglect and these things may not appear for a few months or even a few years. Be careful because it can end up costing you a lot of money and a broken heart.
Now that you are finally getting ready to go meet with some different Poodle breeders in hopes of finding the perfect puppy to bring home, you are going to want to be smart about the selections you make. Make sure that you are not being kept away from where the puppies are normally housed because if the breeders are not hiding anything, there should not be a problem.

Also, you are going to want to make sure that the puppies are not afraid of the breeders as any sign of fear generally means that there is some form or another of abuse taking place. Also, you will want to ask a lot of questions, even if you already know the answers, just to make sure that the breeder knows what they are talking about. If they try to avoid your questions it could be that they are in it for all the wrong reasons.
While of course you can expect the conversation of money to come up as you are naturally going to have questions and the Poodle breeders do not want to waste their time with someone who is not serious, you want to watch how much they talk about it. If money seems to be the only thing that the Poodle breeders are concerned with, you may want to leave and try again with someone else as they apparently are in it for nothing more then money.

Breeders who are in it for the right reasons and who know what they are doing will know that it is important for you to take your time with the puppies to make sure that you are getting the one that is right for you. You should never feel rushed from a breeder and if you do I suggest that you try again with another breeder who will let you take your time.

Not all Poodle breeders are in the breeding game for the right reasons. Some breeders are in it for nothing other then stealing your money. All breeders who are in it for the right reasons would want you to have all the Poodle information that you need to raise your pup right.
